Vincent S. Stelpflug, 80, of Dickeyville, WI passed away with his family by his side on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, IA.
Friends may call on Monday, June 27th from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the
Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services
in Cuba City, WI. A closing prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. by Father Bernie Rott.
Vincent was born on June 23, 1936 to Clarence & Naudine (Splinter) Stelpflug. He married Lucille M. Dietzel on July 9, 1957 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, WI. He retired after 30 years at John Deere Dubuque Works and tended bar at Sunset Lanes in Dickeyville, WI. Vincent enjoyed reading, playing ball, old movies, especially westerns with John Wayne, bowling, an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs, a good game of euchre and time spent with his family and friends. He was best known for his "signature" advice
"The main thing is...don't get excited".
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Vincent is survived by his wife Lucille Stelpflug of Dubuque, IA; 3 children: Laurie (Todd) VanOstrand of East Dubuque, IL, Brad Stelpflug of San Antonio, TX and Maribeth (Mike Gerdemann) Stelpflug of Dubuque, IA; a daughter-in-law: MeLisa Stelpflug of San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren: Joseph (Angie) Stelpflug Jr. of Hot Springs, AR, Erica (Richard) Nieves of Del Rio, TX, Amanda (Bobby) Cosme of Amarillo, TX, Brenna Stelpflug of Norfolk, VA, Aaron Stelpflug of South Carolina, Courtney (TJ) Runde of Hazel Green, WI, Travis (Melissa) Loomis of Cuba City, WI and Hunter Lewey of Stephens City, VA; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Francis "Fritz" Stelpflug and Gene (Anna) Stelpflug; 2 sisters: Lorraine (Robert) Flogel and Betty Elgin: his love for his Sunset Bowling Family; his "Bonus" "Honorary" children: Danny & Patty Thumser, Spook Casper & Jonathan Schroeder; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, SMSGT Joseph Stelpflug Sr., 3 brothers: Jerome, Donald & Merlin "Mert", a sister, Eileen, mother-in-law & father-in-law, Lawrence & Elizabeth Dietzel and his great grandson & namesake, Carter Vincent Runde.
In lieu of flowers a Vincent Stelpflug Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Stonehill Care Center's staff & to Hospice of Dubuque for their kindness and compassion given to Vincent and his family.
