Ruth was born on May 18, 1940 to Frank & Mary (Weber) Martens in Dubuque, IA. She married Robert V. Harris and had 5 children, Julie, Robert Jr., Laura, Lynne & Ruth Ann.
Ruth co-owned and operated Bob Harris Enterprises and the Roadrunner Drive-In. She loved sharing her joy of dancing and music; it was the hidden language of her soul. Mom felt there was more power in a good strong hug than in a thousand meaningful words. If you saw Ruthie you better expect a hug! Time spent with family was the most important thing to her and usually was done at the kitchen table or many hours on the phone. Ruth in her younger years spent a lot of time creating beautiful paintings, designing flashy costumes for performers, and redecorating the house every other week! Your birthday serenade calls will be greatly missed!
Ruth is survived by a son, Robert "Heavy" (Rose) Harris Jr.; 2 daughters: Laura (Paul LaBrasseur) Harris-Koeller & Lynne (Tim) Walton; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings: twin brother, Ray Martens, sister, Marilyn Sam, brother, Chuck Martens, and many beloved nieces and nephews, and one very special nephew, Billy Martens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Robert Harris Sr., 2nd husband, Gene "Deacon" L. Callan, 2 daughters: Ruth Ann "Boo Boo" Harris, Julie A. Clough, mother & father-in-law: Lavada & Joe Brunskill, 2 grandchildren: Aurora Vayda May Coffman & Wilder James Coffman and 4 siblings: Frank Martens, William Martens, Jean Evans, Eleanor Wallace.
Ruth's family would like to express their immense gratitude to Mercy MedicalOne ICU team and special thanks to Kelly "Tuffy", Abbie and Dr. Powers, who carried mom through this journey peacefully.
Per Ruth's stern wishes, she requested no flowers or plants. A Ruth A. (Martens) Harris-Callan Memorial Fund has been established.
