Obituary

Robert "Bob" L. Champion, 83, of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 at his home. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20th at the United Methodist Church in Hazel Green, WI with Rev. Roy Lewis officiating. Burial with military honors accorded will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery in Hazel Green, WI. Friends may call on Monday, October 19th from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI and on Tuesday, October 20th from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at church. Bob was born on August 16, 1932 to John & Mary (Robinson) Champion in Hazel Green, WI. He married Kay Ogawa on January 8, 1952 in Tokyo, Japan. He was a US Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War as an Airman 1st Class. Bob worked at the Dubuque Packing Company for over 28 years until his retirement in 1981. Together Bob & Kay owned and operated the Wigwam Bar and Grill for over 13 years in Hazel Green, WI. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hazel Green, WI, East Dubuque Drum & Bugle Corps., a commander with the Temperly-Duncan American Legion Post #526 in Hazel Green, WI, he helped with the coordination of 4th of July celebrations, VFW Post#8318 in Cuba City, WI and the Hazel Green Lions Club. Bob enjoyed big band music, an excellent trumpet player, an avid card player, trips to Las Vegas, watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Chicago Cubs. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob is survived by a daughter, Bobbi (Keith) Richardson; a son, Jack (Cathy) Champion; a brother Gene Champion and a sister, Helen (Paul) Shellenberger all of Hazel Green, WI; 4 grandsons and 2 great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kay (Sept. 11, 2003), a brother, John William Champion and a nephew, Thomas E. Champion. In lieu of flowers a Robert "Bob" L. Champion Memorial Funds has been established.
