Obituary

Phyllis Maxine (Cottingham) Kiley, 92, of Cuba City, WI, formerly of Hazel Green, WI, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Platteville, WI. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 13 th at Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI with Pastor Jasmine Tesdahl officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, October 13 th at the funeral home.

Phyllis was born on March 14, 1926, daughter of Miles & Susie (Kieslich) Cottingham Jeffery. Due to her father's death at a young age, Phyllis was raised on the Kieslich family farm in Coon Branch, near Benton, WI by her grandparents, Paul & Jean Kieslich, along with her mother. She attended elementary school at a one-room schoolhouse, which is still standing, albeit in very bad shape. She graduated from Benton High School Class of 1943.

Phyllis then worked for Rayovac in Madison, WI for the remainder of WWII. They manufactured batteries needed for the war effort (Rosie the Riveter she was not, but did help the cause!). When the servicemen came home, Phyllis met William Kiley and on April 21, 1946 they were married for the next 63 years until Bill's passing on January 4, 2009.

During her younger years, Phyllis was very active in the Legion Auxiliary on behalf of the Hazel Green Temperly-Duncan American Legion Post 526. In recent years, her pastimes included watching PGA Golf (Phil Mickelson, her favorite), Green Bay Packers and DWTS's. She had read 1,000's of novels-Nora Roberts & Danielle Steel being at the top of her list. However, her #1 enjoyment was the buffet dinner and video poker every Wednesday at the Diamond Jo Casino. To her credit, she has had two royal flushes.

Her 12 years living at Maplewood Glen Sr. Apartments in Cuba City have been wonderful after having lived in Hazel Green the majority of her adult life. She made many new friends and loved her apartment. Her BFF, Phyllis Dixon, even lived down the hall!

Phyllis had a long rewarding life. She sooo enjoyed looking at Facebook pictures of her great-grandchildren growing up and their accomplishments in sporting events. We will all miss you, Mom, Grandma & Great Grandma Phil. Rest in eternal peace.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 3 children: Susan (Gary) Haverland of Hazel Green, WI; Miles "Buzz" (Ann) Kiley of Benton, WI and Gerald P. (Mary Eslinger) Kiley of Middleton, WI; 6 grandchildren, Michael (Melinda) & Kurt (Leslie) Haverland, Jason, Josh (Lisa), Jeremy Kiley and Kimberly (Jeff) Nancarrow; 7 great-grandchildren: Max (Meghan), Konnor, Mick, Kameron, Lydia, Courtney & Piper; and her brother Jim (Roberta) Jeffery of Cuba City, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Bill, her in-laws, Leo (Mickey) and Della (Peart) Kiley .

In lieu of plants & flowers a Phyllis Maxine (Cottingham) Kiley Memorial fund has been established.

Our family wishes to thank the staff at Platteville Hospital, Midwest Medical Center Skilled Care of Galena, Manor Care, Platteville and Grant County Hospice for their help these past 4 weeks.
