Oswald R. Curtis, 92, of Bethany Home, Dubuque, IA formerly of Hazel Green, WI passed away Thursday morning, April 15, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30am on Monday April 19, 2010 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Hazel Green WI, with Father Cy Weisensel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call on Sunday April 18, 2010 from 4-7pm at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI and on Monday from 9:30 am till time of service at the church.

Ozzie was born on June 1, 1917, to Roy and Mary (Kohn) Curtis in Benton Township, WI; he graduated from Hazel Green High School and Bayless Business College in Dubuque, IA. He served as a Chief Warrant Officer for the Army Air Force during World War II. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Beryle Kathleen Whisler. They were married on September 30, 1942 and had a long and happy marriage. Beryle preceded him in death on July 20, 2001.They were married 58 years. After the war, Ozzie and Beryle relocated to Hazel Green, WI, where they farmed for a number of years. Ozzie held various positions with the U.S. Postal Service before and after the war, retiring as the Hazel Green Postmaster on November 2, 1973. He and Beryle traveled extensively throughout their married life and after retirement wintered in Rockport, Texas. In his later years Ozzie enjoyed fishing, bicycling and working in his vegetable and flower gardens. He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic church and of the Temperly-Duncan American Legion Post 526 in Hazel Green, WI.

Surviving Ozzie are three children: Phyllis (Dan) Olds and Eleanor (James) Hamilton of Dubuque, IA, and Don (Janet) Curtis of Delafield, WI; two grand children: Kathy (Barry) Adams of Overland Park, KS and Roy (Angie) Olds of Dubuque, IA; six great-grandchildren: LeighAnn, Erica, Rachel, and Ryan Olds, and Ben and Emily Adams; a sister Leota of FL, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beryle, two brothers and sisters-in-law: Osee (Elva) of Hazel Green, WI, and Harold (Florence) Curtis of Galena, IL; a sister-in-law Zelma (Wallace) Fisher of Edmond, OK; two brothers-in-law: Harold (Ivabelle) Whisler and Joe (Marilyn) Whisler of Eufaula, Oklahoma.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Liaboe for his professional advice and support, Mercy Medical Center ER and 3rd floor staff for their tender compassion and support this past week. We would especially like to thank the Bethany Home staff who have our deepest admiration and gratitude for the high quality of care and dignity they provided to Dad this past seven years as well as for the camaraderie and love shown to Dad and our family.
