Mervale "Billy" E. Lewey, 88 of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5 from 4pm-8pm at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, WI with military rites accorded. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Billy was born on October 28, 1923 to Hester & Hazel (Brooks) Lewey in Raymond, IL. After graduating from Raymond High School, Billy enlisted into the US Army on May 18, 1943. He served during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on January 17, 1946. He married Melva Coward on August 26, 1948 in Hillsboro, IL. Billy worked for 36 years as a custodian Southwestern High School; retiring on March 9, 2011. He was a lifetime member of the Temperly-Duncan American Legion Post 526 in Hazel Green, WI and the Benton VFW. Billy was a proud supporter of all high school & college sports; he also enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Billy is survived by a daughter, Barbara L. Lewey of Hazel Green, WI; a son, Dennis H. and grandson Austin Lewey both of Monroe, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melva (Dec. 9, 2010); brother: Cleo "Creak" Lewey; father & mother-in-laws: Fred & Margaret Coward; grandmother: Elizabeth Brooks; Brother-in-laws: Steve, Robert & Vince Coward; sister-in-laws: Marie Brooks & Anna Mae Rambow; daughter-in-law: Lynn Wyss; and a sister-in-law: Elaine Lewey. In lieu of flowers a Mervale "Billy" E. Lewey Memorial Fund has been established.
