Mello J. Lolwing, 97, of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Orchard Manor in Lancaster, WI with his family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24th at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Hazel Green, WI, with Fr. Peter Auer officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis de Sales Church Cemetery in Hazel Green, WI. Family & friends may call from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23rd at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI; also on Monday, March 24th from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
Mello was born on December 21, 1927 to Arano & Cecelia (Bausman) Lolwing in Hazel Green, WI. He married the love of his life, Marie M. Wernimont on August 8, 1948 at St. Philomena's Catholic Church in Asbury, IA. Together they managed their farm, along with his carpentry skills, he built many homes in the tri-state area, until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church for many years. Mel enjoyed fishing, an avid Green Bay Packers & Chicago Cubs fan, playing euchre, dancing at the Melody Mill (where he met his wife), but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Mel is survived by 3 children: Merlin Lolwing of Lancaster, WI, Gary (Kathy) Lolwing and Jean (Pat) Johll, both of Hazel Green, WI; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred (Mickey) Lolwing of Arizona; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marie (March 6, 2014), 4 children: Kenneth (Darlene), Judith, Dale & Dean and a brother, LaVerne (Joyce) Lolwing.
In lieu of plants & flowers, a Mello J. Lolwing Memorial Fund has been established.
