Lyle K. Davis, 82, of Dubuque, IA passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Services will be at 10am on Tues. Oct. 29th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA, with Father Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial with military rites accorded will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, IA. Friends may call on Mon. Oct. 28th from 4pm-8pm at the Hoffman Schneider Kitchen Funeral Home in Dubuque, IA; a parish wake service will be held at 7:30pm. Lyle was born on Feb. 16, 1931 to Leo & Edith (Taylor) Davis in Dubuque, IA. He was a US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. He married Mary Jane Malloy on February 23, 1951 in Dubuque, IA. Lyle worked for 33yrs. for the US Army Corp of Engineers in Dubuque, IA and as the Assistant Lock Master at the Lock & Dam #11 in Dubuque, IA, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed cooking, repairing TV's, remodeling projects, collecting Jim Reeves music & memorabilia, and time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Lyle is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; 4 children: Dianna (Paul Engel) Spahn of Lexington, KY, Dan (Cathy) Davis, Shirley (Greg) Davis-Orwoll and Steve (Jamie) Davis all of Dubuque, IA; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Spahn of Coralville, IA, Tracie (Scott) Schwertley of Oswego, IL, Ryan (Sally) Davis, Brianna Cleveland and Kristen Orwoll all of Dubuque, IA; 7 great-grandchildren: Nadim, Aden, Maxwell, Riley Elizabeth, Gabriel, Evelyn and Grey; a sister: Donna Merritt Dubuque, IA; a brother: Clifford (Audrey) Davis of Galena, IL; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers: Virgil, Vernon, Raymond & Lawrence and a great grandson, Baby Daniel. A man can only be beaten two ways. If he dies or if he gives upLyle never gave up. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vickie Zuber for the exceptional care that she gave Lyle and his family and also to Patti, Tracey & Sharon.
