John D. was born on November 8, 1940 in Novinger, MO to Orien &Vivian (Kelly) Truitt. He was one of six children: Helen, Phyllis Ann, Sherry, twin brother, Charles Lee & Patricia. He graduated from high school 1959 in Novinger, MO. He entered the National Guard in 1963 to serve his country. He married Sheryl Rood on February 27, 1965, and they had two children, Tina Marie and a son they lost in infancy, John David. Sheryl preceded him in death on October 28, 1999. He worked for many years for Coleman Floor Company and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 1185 for 59 years. In 1975, John D. and Sheryl opened their own business called J & S Floorcovering & Fireplaces, in Potosi, WI.  He carried great pride and dedication into his work and craftsmanship. He later married Edith Foderaro on November 28, 2002. John was blessed with 3 grandchildren: Justin John, Kayla Marie, and Jennifer Elizabeth.

John was an avid card player and was a member of the American Cribbage Congress and a part of many Cribbage Clubs. He also enjoyed the occasional game of Bocce, and being named Senior Olympic Champion. He was also known as a great collector of antique clocks, tools, and his beloved 2003 Chevy Tahoe to haul the little treasures he would find. If you couldn't find John D., you most likely could find him tending to his tomato plants in his garden, or enjoying the labors of a good homecooked meal. John D. and his twin brother, Charles Lee were known in the family for being aggravators, but it was all in just a little fun. John D. was also known for being a generous, kind, and soft-hearted man who loved his family and friends beyond measure; he would have done anything for them. He appreciated good company, a good friendly competition, and the simple pleasures in life.  He looked forward to his weekly lunch with Edith, Linda, Carissa, and Mason. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his daughter, Tina (Mike) Uppena of Dickeyville, WI; his wife, Edith Truitt of Sun City, AZ; his grandchildren: Justin Brogley of Holt, MI, Kayla (Ryan) Sylla of Janesville, WI; Jennifer (Sean McVay) Brogley of Dickeyville, WI; his step-grandchildren: Cody (Courtney) Uppena of Hazel Green, WI, Breanna (Korie Gafeller) Uppena of Maquoketa, IA, and Brittany (Braydon) Barth of Dickeyville, WI; great-grandchildren: Aurora & Eli Sylla, Ariel & Ayden Cline; 5 great-step-grandchildren; along with many other special family members and friends.
