Obituary

Joan Monica Locher, 86, of Dubuque, IA unexpectedly passed away at home on Friday, September 11th, 2015. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16th at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church in Dubuque, IA, with Father Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque IA. Friends may call on Wednesday, Sept. 16th from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family. Monica was born June 13, 1929, daughter of Wilfred & Monica (Gansemer) Clemens in Dubuque, IA. She attended and graduated from Holy Ghost Catholic School in 1944 and from St. Joseph Girls Academy in 1948. Monica was united in marriage to Dr. Joseph C. Locher on November 23rd, 1950 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Legion of Mary and advocate of the Pro-Life movement. She was modest, holy, generous, insightful and a great role model." Grandma you have one of the biggest hearts in the world, just the small things you do like send cards, newspaper clippings and never forget someone's birthday graduation or communion really shows how much you care and puts a smile on everyone's face which made our hearts a little bigger. You are a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother, we are blessed to have you"- quote from a grandchild's birthday card to Monica-2015. Monica is survived by her 9 children: Cheryl (Donald) Moonen, of Farley IA, James, Jeff, Jason, Justin and Michelle Locher all of Dubuque, IA, Joseph T. Locher of Williston N.Dakota, Dr. Maria (Gregory) Locher-Claus of Gainesville FL, and Jon (Deb) Locher of Coralville, IA; her 8 grandchildren: Gael (Ted) Huinker, Nathon (Rebecca) Moonen, Adrianne (Tim) Grillot, Grace (Roger) Harbaugh, Mitchell, Ava and Lucas Locher; Sophia Claus; her 10 great grandchildren: Gina, Ellen, Joe, Katie Huinker; Andrew and Louis Grillot; Maxwell, Charlotte Evelynne and Amelia Moonen and Natalie Harbaugh, her sisters Evelyn Clemens and Margaret Becker of Dubuque, IA, Helen Gjerde of Ames, IA, and Cindy Krueger of Appleton, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph C. Locher (June 17, 2007), 3 infants sons, her brother Robert Clemens and a sister Mary Skraby. In lieu of flowers a Joan Monica Locher Memorial Fund has been established.
