James L. Stephenson, 91, of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Epione Pavilion Nursing Home in Cuba City, WI. Services will be at 11:30am on Wednesday, May 7th at The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI with Rev. Calvin Hughes officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery in Hazel Green, WI. Friends may call from 9:30am - 11:30am on Wednesday, May 7th at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI until the time of service. Jim was born on January 22, 1923 to George & Marjorie (Dixon) Stephenson in New Diggings, WI. He graduated from Hazel Green High School in Hazel Green, WI. He married Helen Jean Kieslich on Dec. 9, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. He worked as the head of maintenance of Dick's Supermarket in Platteville, WI. He was a WWII US Marine Veteran and was awarded the Navy Cross. Jim enjoyed reading westerns, fishing, hunting, farming and time spent with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jim is survived by his wife Helen; 5 children: Sandra Crabtree in Hazel Green, WI, Ron (Bonnie) Stephenson of Dubuque, IA, Dawn(Ed) Herbst of Hazel Green, WI, Jeffrey (Becky) Stephenson of Chelsea, IA and LuAnn Duran of Hazel Green, WI; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Dale "Jack" Stephenson of Galena, IL; 2 sisters: Marjorie Wharton of Hazel Green, WI and Barbara Jean Jones of Slidell, LA; extended family: Rob & Laurie Toth, Edith Vickers family, Jessica Birkett; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, a daughter, Lynn Ellen; 2 grandsons: Larry Dean Crabtree and Shawn Paul Crabtree; and a son-in-law, Larry Joe Crabtree. In lieu of flowers a James L. Stephenson Memorial Fund has been established.
