Jim was born on January 26, 1940 to Jesse & Mary (Glasker) Knox in Cuba City, WI. He was a graduate from Cuba City High School and then enlisted in the US Army, and served as a cook. He was honorably discharged on April 3, 1964 in Fort Hamilton, NY. He married Carol Ann Miller on June 10, 1967 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Galena, IL. He worked for Willy’s & Conlon Construction, where he was a carpenter supervisor for many area businesses, schools and the Dubuque Regional Airport. And later worked in the maintenance department at Southwest Health Center & Grant Regional Hospital. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time in his garage and workshop, where he put his exceptional carpentry skills to use. Over the years, he handcrafted many beautiful pieces, but he will be especially remembered for the numerous wooden flag display cases he lovingly crafted and donated to families of local veterans. These heartfelt gifts were a lasting tribute to those who served and a reflection of his generosity, craftsmanship, and appreciation for our nation's veterans. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Cuba City Fire Department and the Carpenter’s Union Local 678.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, traveling, and supporting Cuba City High School Athletics for over 50 years, but most of all, he will be fondly remembered riding his scooter around town to visit with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol; 3 children: Paula Storey of Monroe, WI, Steve (Alison) Knox of North Freedom, WI and Todd Knox of Ankeny, IA; 4 grandchildren: Michael, Dillon, Conway & Axl; a sister, Addie Gibbons of Cuba City, WI; a sister-in-law, Janice Mason of East Peoria, IL; along by many nieces and nephews.
