Iola F. Thor, 76, of Kieler, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA. Services will be at 11am on Monday, May 20th at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, WI, with Father Bernie Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, May 19th from 3pm-8pm at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Kieler, WI and on Monday from 9am until time of service at the parish center. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family. Iola was born on September 18, 1936 to Joseph & Florence (Folmer) Kunkel in Louisburg, WI. She married Stanley Philip Thor on May 26, 1956 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, WI. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 5 years, until they went to dial. Then at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, IA as a purchasing director until her retirement in 1994, after 20 years. Iola was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women and Catholic Daughters, and a 4-H leader with her daughters. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, canning and quilting. Iola had a love for baseball. She enjoyed playing cards with the card club and watching The Wheel of Fortune. Time spent at their winter paradise in Florida, was something she looked forward to. Most of all she enjoyed family gatherings. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Iola is survived by her husband, Stanley; 5 children: Randy (Kathie) Thor of Cuba City, WI, Deborah (Andrew) Brannon of La Crosse, WI, Audrey (Patrick) Kress of Bettendorf, IA, Lois (Greg) Herbst of East Dubuque, IL and Pam (Charles) Moore of Verona, WI; 14 grandchildren: Alison (Bobby) Kagan, Megan Thor, Elizabeth, Matthew, Maria and Patrick Brannon, Tyler, Trenton and Austin Kress, Emily, Ashley and Hannah Herbst, Madison and Olivia Moore; a brother: John Kunkel; a sister-in-law: Melinda Kunkel; a brother-in-law: Charlie Weiderholt; Close to her heart were Jerry and Diane Neuses, MaryJane and Roman Lampe, and Diane and Steve Jones, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers: Clair, Elmer and Duane Kunkel; 2 sisters: Rita Neuses and Mary Weiderholt; a brother-in-law: Clem Neuses and 3 sister-in-laws: Ruth Kunkel, Marcella Kunkel and Marna Kunkel. In lieu of flowers an Iola F. Thor Memorial Fund has been established.
