Ila Mae Schuster, 102, of Platteville, WI, formerly of Cuba City, WI, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Edenbrook Nursing Home in Platteville, WI. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8th at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI, with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cuba City, WI. Family & friends may call from 9:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
Ila was born on January 12, 1923, to LaVerne & Annie (Bright) Webster in Shullsburg, WI. She graduated from Cuba City High School in 1940 and continued her education, earning her Bachelor's and Master's Degree at UW-Platteville. She married Harold J. "Red" Schuster on January 3, 1943 at the United Methodist Church in Galena, IL. Ila taught for over 39 years in her career, and the last 27 years were at Cuba City High School.
She was a member of the Cuba City United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Shullsburg Chapter #30, Cuba City Campers Club, life-member of the WFA, NEA, Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 5274 in Platteville, WI, and the Bagley Royal Neighbors of America Camp 270.
Ila enjoyed fishing, crocheting, traveling, reading, an avid card player, trips to their cabin in Bagley, but most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Ila is survived by many nieces and nephews, especially close with: Ron Osterholz and Tom Osterholz and Connie Cullen; 2 sisters: Lillian (Doug) Morgan & June Sullivan; a sister-in-law: Jean Webster; and a brother-in-law, George Schuster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold (April 26, 1999), 6 siblings: Verna (Robert) Osterholz, Mary Jo (George) Hartwig, Lyle Webster, Merlin (Viola) Webster, Burdette "Babe" (Orva) Webster & Rodney (Judy) Webster; and a brother-in-law, John Sullivan.
One of Ila's last wishes were to thank all of her former students, family & friends that recently sent her birthday cards in the mail.
In lieu of plants & flowers, an Ila Mae Schuster Memorial Fund has been established.
