Obituary

Helen M. Jessen, 89, of Platteville, WI, formerly of Dickeyville, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Edenbrook in Platteville, WI. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15th at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI, with Fr. David Flanagan officiating. Family & friends may call on Friday, November 15th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A private family burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Platteville, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Helen was born on August 23, 1935 in the township of Belmont, daughter of William "Bill" & Mary Elgie (Doyle) VonGlahn. She attended Truman School and graduated from Belmont High School. She was united in married to Carl H. Jessen on July 23, 1956 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Truman, WI. Helen also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and doing word search puzzles. Helen's greatest joy was her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Helen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Carl; 3 daughters: Brenda Jessen of Stoughton, WI, Glenda (Craig Meyer) Jessen of Platteville, WI & Carla (Joe) Kaiser of Cuba City, WI; a son, Brian Jessen of Mountain Home, AR; 2 grandchildren: Shannon (Logan) Huber of Platteville, WI & Daniel Jessen of Mountain Home, AR; a great-granddaughter, Kenzie; a step-granddaughter, Brandy (Kurt) Wanazek; 3 step-greatgrandchildren: Addison, Kane & Krew; 3 brothers: Donald Deery of Platteville, WI, Glenn "Willy" (Joanie) VonGlahn & Gary (Cam) VonGlahn all of Shullsburg, WI; mom's "other son", Richard Haudenshield-Krueger, along with many nieces and nephews and many special people mom knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Henry F. & Grace Jessen, a brother, Clarence VonGlahn, 4 sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Cliff) Brown, Darlene Jessen, Helene (Henry) Wackershauser & Shirlie Deery and a brother-in-law, Emerson (Florence) Jessen, a step-grandson, Blake Meyer.

In lieu of plants & flowers a Helen M. Jessen Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. White, the staff at Edenbrook and St. Croix Hospice for their care & compassion shown to Helen and her family.
