Gene A. Wiederholt, 80, of Kieler, WI passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. Services will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, WI with Father Bernie Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 4pm-8pm at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center and on Wednesday, March 30 from 9:30am till time of services at the Parish Center. A prayer service will be held at 3:45pm on Tuesday at the Parish Center. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Kieler, WI is serving the family.
Gene was born on January 20, 1931 to Arnold and Lorena (Brant) Wiederholt in Jamestown Township. He attended St. Mary's School and joined the US Marine Corp in November 1951. He served during the Korean War as a Corporal until 1953. Gene married Bernadine Kahle on October 23, 1951 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler, WI. He worked at the Dubuque Packing Company for 25 years and retired in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Post #104, a volunteer firefighter with the Jamestown Fire Department, Holy Name and of the Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, WI. Gene enjoyed woodworking, gardening, proud Wisconsin sports fan and was an avid fisherman, but most of all he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Bernadine of Kieler, WI; 3 daughters: Linda (Joe) Hillary, Nancy (John) Berning both of Hazel Green, WI and Julie (Mark) Bechen of Dodgeville, WI; 4 sons: Dale (Karen) Wiederholt, Luke (Vicki) Wiederholt both of Hazel Green, WI, Mark (Lisa) Wiederholt of Glencoe, AL and Matt (Shelly Jackson) Wiederholt of East Dubuque, IL; 16 grandchildren: Chet Hillary, Clint (Shannon) Hillary & Megan Hillary, Erik (Amy) Berning & Evan (Tracy) Berning, Wendy (Jake) Lasee & Ben Wiederholt, Brooke, Gina & Jake Bechen, Lucas & Brittany Wiederholt, Tony Jackson, Kailey (Adam) Blackburn, Lacie & Tanner Kieler; 9 great grandchildren: Annalise, Sadie, Coralee, Jonah & Simeon Hillary, Grace & Owen Berning, Beau & Quade Blackburn; 2 sisters: Mariella Schmitz and Rita Schaefer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Thomas, two grandsons: Joshua & Brandon Wiederholt, two brother-in-laws: Robert Schmitz and Jerome Schaefer.
In lieu of flowers a Gene A. Wiederholt Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Christian Schulteis and his staff in the Oncology Depart. at Medical Associates in Dubuque, Dr. Thomas Sinsky and to Hospice of Dubuque for the care and kindness shown to Gene and his family.
