Obituary

Fred E. Whittemore, 86, of Cuba City, WI passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7th at the Faith Lutheran Church in Cuba City, WI with Pastor Jasmine Tesdahl officiating. Burial with military honors accorded will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Cuba City, WI. Friends may call on Saturday, April 7th from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Faith Lutheran Church in Cuba City, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Fred was born in Beloit, WI on May 13, 1931 to Lawrence & Esther (Nordt) Whittemore and raised in South Beloit, IL. He graduated from South Beloit High School in 1949 and joined the US Marine Corp. upon graduation. He fought in the Korean War and received a Bronze Star. He married Joanne M. Cobb on February 14, 1954 in Beloit, WI. Served his apprenticeship as a pattern maker from Fairbanks Morse. He retired from John Deere Dubuque Works in Dubuque IA after 30 years and then drove school buses for Stratton Bus Company. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Cuba City, WI, the Pattern Makers' League of America and the Joseph F. McCrea Memorial V.F.W Post 7896 in Benton, WI, where he served as post chaplain. Fred enjoyed reading, watching sports 24/7, especially the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears & Wisconsin Badgers, an avid card player, his beloved dog, Lady and time spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Fred is survived by five daughters: Cheryl Denman and Laurie Kreul both of Cuba City, WI; Terri (Jim) Allison and Machelle (Winston) Thompson both of San Diego, CA ,Cindy (Tim) Hocking of Highland, WI; a sister-in-law, Sarah Fiorucci of Machesney Park, IL; 1 sister, Beverly Likes of Oakdale, MN; 11 grandchildren: Tyson Hocking, Joleen Hocking, Cari Johnson, Holly Denman, Sarah Allison, Becky Fellenzer, Kenneth Kreul, Jamie Tighe, Tracie Fletcher, Michael Allison & Zionah Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren , along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joanne (Jan. 1, 2010), a sister, Betty Christianson, 2 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law.
