Ernest V. Wilkerson, 84, of Hazel Green, WI passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City, WI. A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Temperly-Duncan Post #526 in Hazel Green, WI. Pastor Calvin Hughes will be officiating. Friends may call on Thursday August 4, from 9:30am till time of service at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at a later date at East Side Cemetery in Dodgeville, WI. Ernest was born on February 16, 1927 to Sylva & Mary (Silvers) Wilkerson in LeRoy, IL; he was the oldest of 10 children. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps. and served his country in WWII. He married Marilyn Johnsen on November 17, 1962 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He attended vocational college to work on small engines. He drove truck for many years in the tri-states, at Eldon Miller Trucking, InLand Molasses in Dubuque, IA, and then buses for Hillard Bros. School Buses and Tri-State Bus Tours in Galena, IL. Ernest was a member of the Benton Saddle Club and the American Legion Temperly-Duncan Post #526 in Hazel Green, WI. He enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, dancing, music, westerns and times spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Ernest is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Hazel Green, WI; three children: Terry (Russ) Mentzer of Davenport, IA, Toni (& special friend Matt Copeland) Belhaj of Hazel Green, WI and Todd (Stacie) Wilkerson of East Dubuque, IL; and three children from a previous marriage: Eugene, Anita and Rebecca; 3 brothers; 5 sisters; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Frank. In lieu of flowers a Ernest V. Wilkerson Memorial Fund has been established.
