Obituary

Ellen Lucille (Waugh) Gasser, 86, of Windsor, WI, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI with her family by her side. Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Windsor United Church of Christ in Windsor, WI; with Reverend Julie Overman officiating. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, WI. Friends may call on Friday, July 22, from 3pm-8pm at the Windsor United Church of Christ in Windsor, WI and on Saturday 9:30am till time of service at the church. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family. Ellen was born on May 22, 1925 to John & Lena Rosa (Hebel) Waugh on the family farm in Dekorra Township, WI. She went to school at the Inch School No. 6 and was a graduate of Poynette High School. She met her husband, Merlin B. Gasser at a youth church group-sponsored New Year's Eve dance, and was married on August 3, 1946 at the Inch Methodist Church in Poynette, WI. They raised four daughters and had a dairy farm and raised chickens. She worked many jobs over the years; Portage Hosiery Co., drove school bus for 3 ½ years for Jelco Bus Co., taught Sunday School, and was employed by American Breeders Service in DeForest, WI for over 25 years. She was a member of the Scatterettes homemakers, the "We Three" gospel singing group, was a member of the Windsor United Church of Christ, and she was on the building committee to remodel the Windsor Church and was a church Deaconess. She was an active choir member for over 50 years. Ellen was the leader of the Windsor Willing Workers 4-H Club, a Charter Member of the Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club of Baraboo, WI. For their 25th wedding anniversary Merlin & Ellen went on a Caribbean cruise and for their 50th wedding anniversary they went to the Panama Canal, Spain and Oktoberfest in Germany. Ellen enjoyed traveling with Merlin in the Model T or Model A car tours, taking pictures, going to the movies, painting ceramics, singing, picking peas from her garden, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Ellen is survived by her four daughters: Mariellen Gasser of Windsor,WI, Janet (Richard) Krueger of Hazel Green, WI, Lorraine (Robert) Newlun of Windsor, WI and Audrey (Mitch) Weger of Madison, WI; four grandchildren: Lynne (David) Rokusek, Jillian Krueger, Hayley and Ryan Elbe; two great-grandsons: Mason and Wyatt Rokusek ;three step-grandsons: Rob Newlun, Trevor and Brent Weger and two great-step grandchildren: Griffin and Jessica Newlun; one sister: Golda (Ken) Anderson and a sister-in-law, Mary Waugh along with many nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merlin (Sept. 22, 2010), four brothers: John, Charles, William & Edward, two sisters: Ablina & Katie. In lieu of flowers an Ellen L. Gasser Memorial Fund has been established.
