Dawson Peter Williams, 70, of Hazel Green, WI, formerly of Platteville, WI passed away on Monday April 19, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. Graveside Memorial Services will be 11am on Friday April 23, 2010 at Hillside Cemetery in Platteville, WI, with Pastor Ed Jones officiating. Military rites will accord at the cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7pm on Thursday April 22 at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI.

Pete was born on March 15, 1940 to Dawson and Marcella (Utzig) Williams in Platteville, WI. He attended the Platteville schools and enlisted in the Navy in 1957 and worked as a jet mechanic and got his GED. After the Navy, he was a OTR truck driver and operated heavy equipment. He was a member of the Eagles Club #568 in Dubuque, IA, VFW Post #5274 in Platteville, WI, and of the Temperly-Duncan American Legion Post 526 in Hazel Green, WI. While he was the Commander of the Platteville VFW Post #5274 and was very instrumental in helping to purchase the current building. Pete enjoyed fixing small engines, became a certified locksmith and was an avid euchre player.

Pete is survived by a son, Dawson Peter Williams, Jr. of Dubuque, IA; a stepson, Shelby Welbes of Dubuque, IA; a step-daughter: Robin (Steve) Kane, former wife, Sandra Williams of Dubuque, IA; longtime best friend and companion, Norma Montgomery of Galena, IL; his special little girl in his life Megan Harris;; two brothers: Gerald Williams of Livingston, WI. and Charles (Pat) Williams of Seneca, SC; sister, Lois Jakovich of Seneca, SC, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elizabeth as an infant and Wanda Flesch, brother-in-law Marko Jakovich and a sister-in-law Micheline Williams.

In lieu of flowers a Dawson Peter Williams Memorial Fund has been established.
