Obituary

Chin O. Kress, 86, of Hazel Green, WI passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 25, 2023. A private family service will be held at Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI. Burial will be in the British Hollow Cemetery in Potosi, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Chin was born on February 14, 1937 to Hyok Kyun & Kwan Ok (Choe) Sin in South Korea. She married Roger H. Kress on November 8, 1978.

She spent many years of her married life as an Army spouse, moving to different parts of the world, from South Korea, to Fort Hood, Texas, then Heidelberg, Germany, until Military retirement had her finally setting roots in Southwest Wisconsin. She met many friends along the way and always found a Korean friend wherever she went. They were very special to her and proved to be so, all the way till the end.

She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. Day long shopping marathons with her daughters and eventually her grandkids, brought many fun memories and "great deals".

She was an unconventional grandmother that brought sass and silliness into the rearing of her grandkids. She was a very small package that made a big impact.

She loved her Sunday trips to worship at Grace Korean Church in Moline, IL and making stops at the Korean grocery store.

She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking Korean dishes for her family, especially her grandkids. Her fried rice and egg rolls will be sorely missed.

Chin is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Roger: 3 daughters: Mary (Steve) Kim, Kat (Michael) Longhenry and Jackie (Rich) Birkett; 5 grandchildren: Scott (Lana) Kim, Logan Longhenry and Claire, Jack, & Connor Birkett; a brother-in-law: David Kress; along with many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, in-laws: Jack & Pat Kress, sister-in-law: Sue (Herm) Pergande, and a grandson: Brian Kim.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Dubuque for their care and kindness over the past few weeks.

In lieu of plants & flowers, a Chin O. Kress Memorial Fund has been established.
