Charles E. Hoppenjan, 94, of Cuba City, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2018, at Epione Pavilion, Cuba City, WI. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23rd at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City, WI with the Father David Flanagan and Msgr. Michael Burke officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose Church Cemetery in Cuba City, WI. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, August 23rd at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City, WI. Charlie was born on July 13, 1924 in Elk Grove Township, LaFayette County, WI, son of Charles M. and Carrie (Burke) Hoppenjan. He married Esther Loewenhagen on October 5, 1954; she preceded him in death on November 24, 2007. Charlie retired from John Deere Dubuque Works in 1983 after 30 years of service. He later worked for Shakeproof in Darlington and the Tri-State Auto Auction in Cuba City. Charlie enjoyed helping on the family farm and dancing in his younger years. A member of the Knights of Columbus, Charlie was devoted to his faith. He enjoyed going to basketball games sitting in the front row to watch his children and grandchildren. Charlie was an avid card player, Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed time spent with his brothers and sisters. Visits from the great-grandchildren brought smiles to his face & was very proud to share his birthday with his great-grandson Colin.
Charlie is survived by 2 sons: Rick (Donna) & Ron "Red" (Susan) Hoppenjan of Cuba City, WI; 2 grandchildren: Chad (Ashley) Hoppenjan of Dubuque, IA and Sara (Sean) Quigley of Sussex, WI; 3 great-grandchildren: Colin & Keira Quigley and Jonah Hoppenjan; a brother, Robert (Renee) Hoppenjan of Bellevue, IA; 2 sisters: Millie (Richard) Sorensen of Madison, WI and Jean (Terry) Cleary of Middleton, WI; a brother-in-law, Martin "Chip" (Delores) Loewenhagen; 2 sisters-in-law: Joyce Hoppenjan and Joan Lewis and special friends Willie and Joan VonGlahn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Helen Joyce; 2 brothers: Harry (Pat Burke) & Richard Hoppenjan; 3 sisters: Eileen (Jerome) Simon, Marie (Guerdon) Riechers and Florence (Harry) Segerstrom; 7 brothers-in-law: Alton (Emma) Loewenhagen, Alvin (Mabel) Loewenhagen, Marvin (Leila) Loewenhagen, Ray (Mary) Loewenhagen, Otto (Clara) Loewenhagen, Veryl (Vera) Loewenhagen, Gaylord Lewis and 2 sisters-in-law: Sarah Ann (Jerome) Comero and Donna (Lloyd) Salwey.
In lieu of plants & flowers a Charles E. Hoppenjan Memorial Fund has been established.
Charlie's family would like to extend their gratitude for the warm and caring touch given by the Epione Pavilion staff.
