Obituary

Carol Helbing, 85, of Dickeyville, WI passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2026, from pancreatic cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31st at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, WI; with Fr. Peter Auer & Fr. Joseph Bellamkonda officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Ghost Church Cemetery in Dickeyville, WI. Family & friends may call on Friday, July 31st from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.

Carol was born on October 2, 1940, in Potosi, WI, the daughter of Al and Edna Friesen. She graduated from St. Andrew High School in 1958.

On June 7, 1960, she married David Helbing at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, WI. Together they farmed for 30 years. She then worked at UW-P for 12 years before moving to Dickeyville. She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish CCW and did volunteer work at parish functions. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, sewing, watching Badger basketball games, but what she enjoyed the most was spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

Carol is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dave; a daughter, Kim (Chris) Vanek and 2 sons: Jeff (Denise) Helbing & Scott (Tricia) Helbing; 6 grandchildren: Nathan (Jill) Helbing, Jordan Helbing, Marne (Tony) Strevel, Sydni Helbing, Vance (Mikkela) Hooley & Jocelyn Hooley; 2 greatgrandchildren; 3 brothers: Bob (Sharon) Friesen, Dick (Jackie) Friesen & Mark (Pat) Friesen and 2 sisters: Betty (Bill) Brown and Janelle (Tom) Weber; 2 brothers-in-law: Francis Wallenhorst & Rick (Kris) Helbing; 3 sisters-in-law, Joan Helbing, Mary Jo Helbing & Karen Donovan; along by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Donna Wallenhorst, parents-in-law, Henry & Hilda Helbing, and 4 brothers-in-law: Dale Helbing, Henry (Butch) Helbing, Stanley Helbing & Tom Donovan.

The family thanks Hospice Care of Dubuque, especially Robin, for their excellent care of Carol.

In lieu of plants & flowers, a Carol Helbing Memorial Fund has been established.
