Carl was born on February 5, 1947, to LeRoy and Mary (Bies) Friederick. He attended Wahlert High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army & served in the Vietnam War. Once back home, he opened his first business—a gas station (Phillips 66). He loved playing euchre, attending auctions & flea markets, and reminiscing about the good old days. Carl spent his later years working on a variety of projects and always finding ways to improve his property.

He married Carol Ann Kupferschmidt on September 6, 1969, at St. Columbkille's Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Together, they owned and operated Friederick Hardware & Repair and later, Hard Scrabble Antiques in Hazel Green, WI, for 40 years. They also opened a teen center that had an arcade, candy, pizza & soda for the local teens called Wildcat Arcade. Carl and his devoted wife Carol built a life rich in family, friendship, and unwavering companionship. Rarely apart, they shared every chapter "side-by-side" with their beloved dogs.

Carl is survived by 4 children: Bart (Paige) Friederick of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mica (deceased) (Susan) Friederick of Galena, IL, Leah (Garrett) Gutknecht of Peosta, IA & Tina (Danny) Loos of Dixon, IL; 8 grandchildren: Logan & Alexa Friederick, Olivia & Ella Friederick, Alysa (Jeff) Pagel, Ayden (Cody) Icenogle, Rowan Carstensen & Ellis Loos; one great-grand child, Kyson Icenogle; 1 brother: Kenny Friederick; 1 sister: Esther (Clete) Kruser; 2 sisters-in-law: Connie (Wayne) Heim of Dubuque, IA & Kay (Brad) Averkamp of East Dubuque, IL; along with many nieces and nephews.
