William J. "Bill" Jones 81 of Cuba City, WI passed away Wednesday February 24 surrounded by his family at Mercy Medical Center following complications from an aneurysm. Services will be Friday March 12, 2010 at 10:30 am at St Rose Church Cuba City, WI. Friends may call on Thursday March 11, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI. Friends may also call after 9:30 am at the church on Friday.

Bill was born on June 19, 1928 in Todd County, MN, son of Ivan D & Josephine S (Kastonek) Jones. Bill graduated from Mount Hope High School, Mount Hope, WI. After his graduation Bill farmed on the family farm in Mount Hope, while farming he also went to work in road construction with his father. In 1977 Bill left farming and went into construction full-time. He left Mount Hope in 1979; he moved around for a while then settled in Cuba City, WI where he resided for the last 24 years. Bill retired from the former Dubuque Greyhound Park. After his retirement Bill planted a huge garden in which he grew many wonderful vegetables and fruits, he had a very green thumb. He cooked and canned many of his home grown foods, as well as selling them & donating his vegetables. Bill also worked part-time at Weber's Meats over seeing the night clean up crew, until his eye sight forced him to quit. Bill's greatest joys in life were being with his family, spending time outside, cooking & baking, woodworking, traveling and most of all going to Nick's Café for coffee and conversation with his many friends.

Bill is survived by his devoted sister Ellen A Jones-Davis of Cuba City, WI, his beloved niece Jody R Davis-Waechter (Douglas) of Cuba City, WI, his brother John H (Lynette) Jones of Dane, WI, his sister-in-law Rita Frank, Durango, CO. His nieces, Sherri (Ron), Carlotta, Trish, Patsy, Darla, Michelle, Annette & Susan. His nephews, Jeff, Art, Orville Lee, Gary, Alan, Jay, Greg & Randall. Many great & great-great nieces and nephews, along with many godchildren and cousins. His cat & breakfast companion Nikki.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan & Josephine Jones, his brothers Leland (Lee) (Anna) Frank, Orville (Pete) Frank, Edward (Ed) (Arletta) Frank, Robert (Bob) Jones. A sister Adeline (Parke Jr.) Gelbach. He was also preceded in death by his maternal & paternal grandparents, a few nieces, nephews and cousins. A William J. (Bill) Jones memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Sister Rosalyn for all of her caring support and prayers while Bill was in ICU @ Mercy, along with the ICU nurses at Mercy Medical Center and all the family and friends who prayed for Bill.
