Betty L. Schroeder, 87, of Platteville, formerly of Cuba City, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services, Platteville, WI. Services will be 11 am on Monday, September 12, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Shullsburg, WI with Father Anthony S. Aakula officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Kieler, WI. Friends may call from 4pm-8pm on Sunday, September 11 at the Furlong-Thompson-Haudenshield Funeral Home in Shullsburg, WI and on Monday, after 10am at the funeral home. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family. Betty was born on April 17, 1924 in Epworth, IA, the daughter of Clarence & Myrtle (Stuart) Sefzik. She was a graduate of Epworth High School in 1941. She married Carl B. Schroeder on April 23, 1946. After her marriage, she and Carl resided in Balltown, IA until 1978 when they moved to rural Kieler, WI. After Carl's death in 1978, she moved to rural Cuba City until 2007 to Dubuque Retirement Community. She then moved to ManorCare in Platteville, WI in 2009. She was a 4-H leader for many years in Balltown. In 1978 she started working at Advance Transformer in Platteville, until her retirement in 1993. She always enjoyed camping, traveling with her family, reading, playing cards and babysitting her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Betty is survived by 2 children: Myrtle (Vernon) Weber of Cuba City, WI and David (Vicki) Schroeder of Bella Vista, AR; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer (Rich) Wiederholt, Karen (Clark) Hoppman, Kathy (Scott) Paul, David (Stephanie) Weber, Sarah (Eric) Eckhoff and Anna (Kevin) Lemen; 13 great grandchildren: Ryan, Katie & Adam Wiederholt, Kyle, Isaac, Brandon & Jamie Hoppman, Olivia Paul, Jackson, Ava & Bailey Weber, Ella & Allison Eckhoff. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl (1978), a brother Lee, and 2 great grandchildren, Austin & Alex Hoppman. In lieu of flowers a Betty Schroeder Memorial Fund has been established.
