Barbara June Eckert passed away peacefully in her New Glarus home, surrounded by her children, on the morning of June 20th, 2023 at the age of 62 after a determined battle with cancer. Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Grace Church in New Glarus, WI. A private family service & burial will follow in Hazel Green, WI.

Barbara June "Bugs" Hammill was born on April 17, 1961 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin to June Chadwick and Delbert Hammill as the eleventh of thirteen children. She married the late George Conrad Eckert on July 21, 1981, and they moved all over the country as a Coast Guard family until settling down in Wisconsin prior to his passing in 1993.

Barbara was a high school basketball and track star, setting records in her hometown. She was first and foremost a mother, empowering her children's strengths in multiple disciplines and passions, and was an absolutely incredible "Grammy", making each child feel individually special and important. She leaves behind an example of consummate optimism, unconditional love, and support for children and siblings. In her community, Barbara was instrumental in the establishment of the New Glarus swim team, deeply involved in the New Glarus Heidi Festival, and was a beloved member of the Roy's Market team. She regularly attended Grace Church in New Glarus, and was a beacon of faith and love to all who knew her.

Barbara is survived by four children: Andrew Conrad Eckert, Justin Alexander Eckert, Marissa Quinn Aravena, and Allison June Eckert. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Kennedy, Michael, Savannah, and Charlotte.

In lieu of plants & flowers a Barbara June Eckert Memorial Fund has been established.
