Ava Guler, 87, of Cuba City, WI passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City, WI. A memorial service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Cuba City, WI with Pastor Dan Verdegan officiating. Friends may call from 9:30am till time of service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cuba City, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, WI is serving the family. Ava was born on May 27, 1926 in Benton, WI. She was the daughter of John "Jack" & Jessie (Fraser) Curwen. Ava married Leonhard (Midge) Guler on September 4, 1943 at the Benton Primitive Methodist Church. They resided in the Cuba City area. Ava worked outside of the home, having worked at the Cuba City Hemp Plant, Burgess Battery Works in Galena, IL and then working until retirement from the United States Postal Service. Ava was one of the first female mail carriers for the postal service. Ava belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Church in Cuba City, WI. She also enjoyed shopping in Dubuque with special friends Betty Riley and Izzy Haudenshield. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Ava is survived by three sons: John (Jean) Guler of Monona, WI, George (Elsie) Guler of Pardeeville, WI and Todd (Marissa) Guler of Zaragoza, Spain; two daughters: Lana Kim (Eric) Solberg of New Glarus, WI and Loretta Kay King of Coral Springs, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Howard and William Curwen; 4 sisters: Emma Harris, Margaret Marsh, Florence Hull and Minnie Haage. In lieu of flowers an Ava L. Guler Memorial Fund has been established.
