Joyce Mae (Thousand) Brown, 90, of Cuba City, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. Services will be at 11am on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church, Cuba City, WI with Pastor Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cuba City, WI. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 3rd from 4-8pm at the Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI and on Wednesday from 10am till time of service at the church. Joyce was born on November 1, 1921 to Christian & Lydia (Lewis) Thousand in Blue Mounds, WI. She attended Ruste Grade School in Blue Mounds, WI and was a graduate of Mount Horeb High School. She married Robert “Bob” Brown on November 14, 1942 in Mount Horeb, WI. They farmed in Blue Mounds & Mt. Horeb until they moved to Cuba City in 1954. She worked as a cook for 20 years at the Cuba City Hospital until retirement in 1989. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, American Legions Women’s Auxiliary in Cuba City, WI. Joyce’s true pride and joy was her family. She loved to cook and bake for her family, especially Sunday dinners for everyone. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Joyce is survived by 6 children: Connie Johnson of Alamogordo, NM, Donald (Carol) Brown of Lanark, IL, Richard (Lori) Brown of Platteville, WI, LaNita (Gary) Gillett of Shirland, IL, David (Kathy Becker) Brown of Cuba City, WI and Duane “Pete” (Gina) Brown of Dickeyville, WI; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; 3 step great-great grandchildren; 3 sister-in-laws: Dorothy Francis of Wausau, WI, Mary Ann Brown of Plover, WI, Dorothy Brown of Cuba City, WI and brother-in-law Cliff Brown of Cuba City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert (March 6, 1980); a son, Dale Brown; daughter-in-law, Judy A. Brown; granddaughter, Wendy Brown; 3 sisters: Caryl Novak, Betty Enloe and Doris Frye; 5 brother-in-laws: Joseph Novak, Clarence Enloe, Herman Frye, Wayne Brown and “Bubsie” Francis.
